Peridontal Screening

During this process the hygienist takes measurements of the “pockets” around the teeth to determine the health of the gums. Readings between 1-3 mm indicates healthy gums. A reading over 4 mm can signify gum disease and means the patient may require deep cleanings under the gums to eliminate the bacteria. In addition, we sometimes place antibiotics in the pocket to regain gingival health. Deep cleanings can help the mouth return to a healthy state which the patient can maintain.
